Building bikes
I learned an immense amount about bikes this weekend. My girlfriend had needed a new bike for awhile, her rusty old pink and yellow St. Tropez 10 speed had seen better days(20 years ago). We had gone to quite a few bike shops, but never could find one that she liked, and was in the price range we were looking for. I found on bikesdirect.com a pretty cheap fixed gear bike(mercier kilo tt) and ordered it. I also ordered some new wheels from ebay and new handlebars and seat.
For such a simple machine as a bike, so much care and precision must go into each part. We completely built the bike from the ground up, which was a lot of fun and only took a couple of hours.
I love learning new things, and this was a good time. She’s never ridden a fixie before, so it’s been challenging getting her up to speed. She’s a quick learner though, and we should be tearing up the streets soon.
